Callers from outside the UK should note that exchange codes beginning '01' and '02' are geographical fixed wire phones. Mobile numbers usually begin with '07'. Callers particularly from the US may note a problem with reaching European mobile voice mailboxes. When a mobile phone is off, engaged or out of range of a base-station calls to it should switch automatically to a voice-mail service. This works correctly for calls originating within the UK or Europe. However, calls routed through some US carriers may return a 'telephone out of service' response in these circumstances. Complaints have been made to UK mobile operators about this but they claim that the problem is due to the way certain US mobile carriers respond to signals from the European networks.
